Crispy Fish and Chips – British Classic, Street Food Vibes ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ

Craving something crispy, golden, and totally satisfying? Time to whip up some Fish and Chips – the OG British comfort food that hits all the right spots. Think crunchy batter, flaky fish, and fries that are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Yes, please. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Perfect for lunch, dinner, or even a Netflix snack sesh. Let’s get frying, shall we?

๐Ÿ›’ Ingredients:

For the fish:

  • 2 white fish fillets (cod, dory, or haddock)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Juice of ½ lemon

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (for dusting)

For the batter:

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ⅔ cup cold sparkling water or beer (yep, cold = extra crispy)

For the chips (fries):

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cut into thick fries

  • Oil for deep frying

  • Salt to taste

Optional: Tartar sauce, lemon wedges, or vinegar for serving ๐Ÿ‹

๐Ÿณ Instructions:

1. Prep the Potatoes

  • Soak the fries in cold water for 30 minutes (removes starch = crispier).

  • Drain and dry them with a towel.

2. First Fry (Low Temp)

  • Heat oil to about 150°C (300°F).

  • Fry the potatoes for 5–6 minutes. Don’t brown them yet! Just cook through.

  • Remove and set aside.

3. Season the Fish

  • Pat the fish fillets dry.

  • Squeeze some lemon juice, sprinkle salt & pepper.

  • Lightly coat each fillet in plain flour (helps batter stick).

4. Make the Batter

  • Mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

  • Slowly add cold sparkling water or beer while stirring.

  • The batter should be thick enough to coat the fish.

5. Fry the Fish

  • Heat oil to 180°C (350°F).

  • Dip each fillet in batter, then carefully lower into the hot oil.

  • Fry until golden and crispy (about 4–5 minutes per side).

  • Drain on paper towels.

6. Second Fry for Chips ๐Ÿ”ฅ

  • Increase oil temp to 190°C (375°F).

  • Fry the potatoes again until golden and crispy.

  • Drain and season with salt.

๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ Serve It Up!

Plate your hot, crispy fish next to a generous pile of fries. Add a lemon wedge, tartar sauce, or malt vinegar if you’re feeling proper British. And there you go — your homemade Fish and Chips is ready to steal the show.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips Horegnya:

  • Want ultra-crispy batter? Keep the batter cold and don’t overcrowd the fryer.

  • No beer? Sparkling water works just as well!

  • Double-frying = the secret to perfect fries.

  • Serve on newspaper-style paper for that authentic street food feel (just for fun, not actual newspaper ๐Ÿ˜…).

๐ŸŽ‰ Final Words:

Fish and chips may be a British classic, but now it’s your home kitchen legend. Crunchy, juicy, salty, satisfying. It’s the kind of food that makes you wanna say, “Why didn’t I make this sooner?”
